Private Cancer Screening with Trucheck Intelli
Cancer can be detected before symptoms appear, which is important as some people are asymptomatic. At The Oakley Medical Practice in Birmingham, we offer the TruCheck cancer test, which can detect more than 70 types of solid cancer tumours with a single blood test. In the UK, solid cancer tumours make up over 90% of all new cancer cases. The TruCheck blood test is changing what we know about cancer prevention and early detection and is now available as part of our private cancer screening services.
Ideal as part of an annual health check-up, this private cancer test helps give clarity on your health, even if you feel well. We recommended this test for women and men aged 40 and over who are asymptomatic and have never been diagnosed with cancer.

What Is the TruCheck Cancer Blood Test?
The TruCheck blood test is a multi-cancer screening tool that identifies tiny circulating tumour cells (CTCs) in your bloodstream. These cells shed from solid cancers even at very early stages and can be present long before any physical symptoms develop. It not only identifies whether you have CTCs but also where they originated. This valuable information allows for further investigation to take place and speeds up the diagnosis and treatment process.
What Can the Test Detect?
TruCheck Intelli can screen for more than 70 types of solid organ cancer, including many of the most common cancers in the UK, such as:
- Lung, breast, and prostate cancers
- Gastrointestinal cancers: Pancreas
- Head and neck cancers: Salivary gland, thyroid.
- Gynaecological cancers: Ovarian
- Urinary tract cancers: Bladder
- Brain tumours and melanoma
…and many others.
The test does not detect blood cancers such as leukaemia, lymphoma or myeloma.
What to Expect During the Test
- Consultation with our doctor to confirm your eligibility.
- Blood sample collection.
- Laboratory analysis in the UK.
- Results usually within 12 to 14 working days.
Who Is Suitable For a Trucheck Blood Test?
This test is usually suitable if you:
- Are over 40 years old (or 35–40 and considered high risk)
- Have no previous cancer diagnosis
- Are not currently experiencing symptoms that would need urgent investigation
- Have not had a recent blood transfusion
If you do have concerning symptoms, we will guide you towards the most appropriate private cancer screening tests instead.
Other Private Cancer Screenings We Can Offer
Genetic Testing
Understanding your hereditary risk of cancer can be daunting, but our detailed genetic testing is here to help. By examining specific gene variants associated with higher cancer risks, we can help you make informed decisions about your health. Our team will support you every step of the way.
EarlyCDT Lung
A simple blood test can detect lung cancer at its earliest stage. Early CDT Lung is especially beneficial for individuals at higher risk. This includes those who smoke or those with a history of lung disease.
Stockholm3
Stockholm3 is an advanced prostate cancer screening test going beyond the standard PSA (prostate-specific antigen) test. It looks at multiple protein markers, genetic markers and clinical data to give a more accurate risk assessment. This can help you avoid unnecessary biopsies and identify cancers that need treatment.
Proclarix
Proclarix is a specialised blood test which helps clarify uncertain results from PSA (prostate-specific antigen) tests or MRIs. It helps to determine whether a prostate biopsy is necessary, helping to prevent unnecessary procedures.
Bladder EpiCheck
Bladder EpiCheck is a non-invasive urine test used for the early detection and monitoring of bladder cancer. This test is useful for patients who are under observation for bladder cancer recurrence.

Cancer screening involves testing for early signs of cancer before symptoms appear. This is done through tests such as blood tests, physical exams and biopsies to check for different types of cancer. These screenings are important, as early detection increases the chances of successful treatment and can help prevent cancer from developing. Finding cancer when it’s easier to treat reduces cancer-related deaths.
Cancer screening guidelines vary depending on the type of cancer, as well as factors such as age, gender, family history and individual risk factors. If you have a strong family history of cancer, it’s important to be proactive and consider screening, even if you don’t have any symptoms.
Screening is aimed at healthy individuals to detect cancer at an early stage, before symptoms appear. People aged 20 and older should consult a healthcare provider to determine if they need a cancer-related check up. Our healthcare team can assess your risk factors and recommend the most suitable screening for you.
The frequency of cancer screening depends on the type of cancer and your personal risk factors. In general, routine screenings are recommended:
- Lung cancer: Yearly screenings are recommended for individuals aged 50 and over, who smoke or have a history of heavy smoking.
- Prostate cancer: Screening is typically advised from age 45 or 50 and may be done every 1 to 2 years based on PSA test results.
- Bladder cancer: Regular screening isn’t routine, but high-risk individuals (e.g., those with a history of bladder issues) may need periodic urine tests or screenings.
If you’re unsure about your risk, our private GPs can assess your health and recommend how often you should get screened.
