Why Measles Protection is Essential
Measles is a highly contagious virus which spreads through coughing, sneezing and close contact. While measles has become less common due to widespread immunisation, it’s still on the rise due to lower MMR vaccination uptake. Two doses of the single measles vaccine are recommended for full immunity. The first from 12 months of age, followed by a second dose at least a year later.
Single Measles Vaccination Birmingham
At The Oakley Medical Practice, we offer the single measles vaccine for individuals of all ages. This private vaccine provides long-lasting protection against measles and is a suitable alternative to the measles component of the MMR (measles, mumps and rubella) vaccine.
Why Choose a Single Measles Vaccine?
- Ideal for those who prefer not to receive the combined MMR vaccine
- Offers similar effectiveness to the measles component in the MMR
- Offers better immune response from 12 months.
- Suitable for adults who missed out on vaccination during childhood
The second dose is given a year later, but if there’s a measles outbreak, it can be given just 1 month after the first, either on its own or combined with rubella.
The single measles vaccination is not available on the NHS, as the NHS only offers the combined MMR vaccine. At The Oakley Medical Practice, we offer the private single measles vaccine, providing a flexible option for those who prefer not to receive the full MMR.
If you have unvaccinated children or are planning to travel with a child who hasn’t received the measles vaccine, it’s especially important to ensure they are protected. Measles is a highly contagious disease, and cases are on the rise globally, with 529 reported cases in the UK alone between January and June 2025.
Protect your family with targeted immunisation. Our private GP in Birmingham provides the single measles vaccination for both children and adults, with easy booking, flexible appointments and professional medical advice from our doctor-led team.
